Research and Development
MidDec is involved a number of ongoing research projects concerning the development of new types of sensors and detectors for different applications.
A current project concerns the development of a process for the next generation of pixel detectors. MidDecs Pixel detector will be compatible with the Medipix2 ASIC which is a high spatial, high contrast resolving CMOS pixel read-out chip working in single photon counting mode. It can be combined with different semiconductor sensors which convert the X-rays directly into detectable electric signals.
This represents a new solution for various X-ray and gamma-ray imaging applications. Our detector can be bonded to four MEDIPIX2 chips to form a quad detector with uniform pixel matrix.
Other examples are the development of neutron detectors, detectors for phase contrast x-rays or development of sensors for environmental monitoring of radon.
